Voice of Reepicheep🐭 Audio drama

I was recently cast in an incredible fanfiction reimagining of the Chronicles of Narnia!

Written, directed and produced by Faith M of @fanfictionaudiodramas on Youtube, it's a retelling of the Disney film adaptations, and includes new original characters, created by Faith that are not featured in the C.S Lewis books. It's fantastic btw!

I was cast in the role of Reepicheep, who is an original character. He's a brave warrior mouse of Narnia and it's a character I've fallen in love with!

Maybe it’s because I was picked on for being short when I was a kid, but I feel a certain kinship with Reepicheep. He overcomes his small size with a big personality, anchored in loyalty, strength, and love. He has an unwavering clarity that he is who he is meant to be, and size or species doesn't come into it. In other words, his actions speak louder, and as a result this little mouse has a big impact on those around him.

So when it came to voicing Reepicheep I knew I had to channel that inner strength and integrity. The challenge though, was making sure that this was still the voice of a mouse.

Not the easiest voice to create, but I found it in a line he speaks to King Caspian "Our hearts and swords are at your service".

YES! That's the character of Reepicheep Heart, strength and loyalty.

I read this single line over and over again, different tones, pitch, presence, etc, until it felt 100% Reepicheep, and that's how I found his voice, not in his appearance, but in who he is and what he believes in.

I think that's at the heart of every great character voice. To make it believable you have to understand your character. Of course their physical appearance does have an impact on tone or pitch, but it's in what they believe, how they live their life, their principles and ambitions where you'll find their real voice.

The finished audio drama is now online and features a huge cast of voice talents from around the world. A passion project, no payment, but great fun and an amazing experience I'll never forget.
